Originally built in the 1860s, this heritage-listed property, acquired in 2014 for $1.44 million, consisted of two lots with secondary road frontage at its rear. The vacant 221m² allotment at No.113A was transformed into a two-story contemporary interpretation of a semi-detached dwelling, successfully sold in 2023 for $4.007 million.
Meanwhile, the original sandstone workers cottage on the 303m² allotment underwent a meticulous renovation. The objective was to revive its former glory by preserving the original principal character, while simultaneously elevating it to meet 21st-century living standards. This was achieved through the addition of contrasting contemporary two-story additions, purposefully semi-detached by a glass walkway link. This thoughtful design not only brings a modern touch but also allows observers to seamlessly appreciate the historical transition between the old and the new.
To enhance functionality, the project further capitalised on its secondary rear street frontage by incorporating much-needed off-street parking. Originally sold in 2013 for $2.75 million, current estimates in 2024 suggest a significant increase in value, projected to achieve $4.8 million. This transformation not only preserves the historical significance of the property but also reflects a thoughtful integration of contemporary elements, culminating in a harmonious blend of past and present whilst improving the streetscape and the overall conservation area.
